About the Album

This is the second album featuring Sue Hawker and Rob Koral as a duo, with double bassist Leon Clayton making guest appearances on six of the tracks. Most of the original songs were composed the week before recording (with the exception of Feel So Good and Heroes), the pressure of a deadline apparently working in the artists' favour. Koral, at home on this album with his favoured Ibanez electric, describes Hawker as a 'walking melody box'.
Of the originals, must hear tracks include Heroes and Travelling Blues. Hawker's legendary swinging scat is showcased on the title track The Word Is Out and On The Town. The album also icludes several covers, two Irving Berlin songs (How Deep Is The Ocean and Cheek To Cheek), Carol King's Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow and De Paul's Teach Me Tonight.
Once again, Hawker and Koral complement and weave around each other with a deceptive, virtuoso simplicity.

"It's amazing how panic can concentrate the mind.....We started writing and the songs seemed to flow as if they had been floating in the air, just needing to be caught and written down. Rob played his delicious chord sequences and the melodies just sang to me.
Some of the lyrics are personal. Empty Rooms reflects the intense loss I felt when my parents died; composing this song seemed to ease the hurt. Othet tunes are more fun, such Traffic Jams (don't we all hate them) and Travelling Blues. "

-Sue Hawker

"Rob and Sue are an unusual couple, socially and musically. They are very easy to work with - no tantrums, no arguments; the 'prima donna syndrome' is not in their vocabulary - an attitude many musians should learn from. They allow me to contribute to the creation of their unique style of music, because they understand the need for the music to communicate, not just remain their personal indulgence."

- Dick Hammet
