In the summer I always seem to get a craving for Jazz; I find myself having to quickly get my hands on something, be it Miles Davies, Thelonious Monk or a John Coltrane record to quench my thirst.

Favourite Sin by Sue Hawker and Guy Gardner comes along just at the right time with Sue’s smooth flowing voice and Guy Gardner’s velvety fingers they create the perfect soundtrack to carefree summer days. The rhythm section of Nick Kacal on double bass, drummer Mark Fletcher and the fret walking workaholic Rob Koral on guitar completes the technically astounding line-up. Sue’s seductive voice is exciting to listen to especially as she bops and scats away with the infectious rhythms towards the end of ‘Gossip’.

There is plenty of diversity in the tracks on Favourite Sin such as the slower teasing ‘Stay Away’ and the subtler more minimal ‘Let Me Dream’ showcasing Guy Gardner’s gentler touch on the piano. Bossa Nova takes hold on the faster paced ‘Don’t Be Afraid’ and the drums and double bass pound away on ‘Rambling’ the last track on the album.
