About the Album

Guy Gardner and Sue Hawker came to the jazz world through different channels, though their ideas and influences have fused into a distinct, recognisable style. They first met when Guy stepped in at short notice for a live performance - replacing Sue's regular accompanist, guitarist Rob Koral. Having specialised for decades in the guitar and voice genre, a last minute change to keyboards was a something of a challenge. Guy's fluid, relaxed style proved to be perfect for Sue's melodic, handspun vocals, and both artists resolved to continue the collaboration in the studio.
Sue seized the opportunity to showcase her lyrical talents with an album of songs that give a greater insight into her personal take on the world than any previous album.

"I used to worry that my lyrics should contain profound comments on the evils of the world, but for this album I wanted to concentrate on the little things that drive us forward (or mad!): the neighbour who outstays her welcome (Gossip); the excitment of an illicit romance (Dangerous Liaisons); the deep longing for something we can't have (At The End Of The Day), or the sheer fun of a slightly risque trip to the country (Rambling). So, these lyrics represent my personal look at life, though I suspect many will identify with the sentiments".
